A simple, set-it-and-forget-it method for a smooth, low-acidity coffee concentrate that is perfect for mixing with water, milk, or your favorite flavorings.
Yields: Approximately 4-6 servings of concentrate (8-12 finished drinks)
Prep time: 10 minutes (plus 12-24 hours brewing time)
Ingredients
- 1 cup (8 oz / 225g) coarse ground coffee
- 4 cups (32 fl oz / 950 ml) filtered water, cold
- Ice (for serving)
- Water or milk (for dilution)
- Sweetener (optional)
Equipment
- Large pitcher or jar (at least 64 oz / 2L capacity)
- Fine-mesh sieve
- Cheesecloth or paper coffee filter (optional, for a cleaner finished product)
- Measuring cups
Instructions
-
Combine Ingredients: Add the coarse ground coffee and cold, filtered water to your large pitcher or jar. Stir gently until all the coffee grounds are fully saturated.
-
Steep: Cover the container and let the mixture sit at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.
-
First Strain: Place the fine-mesh sieve over a second clean container. Slowly pour the coffee and grounds through the sieve to separate the liquid from the large particles.
-
Serve: To create a drink, mix the cold brew concentrate with water, milk, or a milk alternative in a 1:1 ratio, or adjust to your personal taste preference. Serve over ice.
